In the 21st century, the importance of competitive exams has increased tremendously relative to school and college exams. This is due to several Government resolutions and Supreme Court judgements. However, this crucial change in the rules of the game has been registered by only a fraction of the students and parent community. The rest do not seem to be aware of the changes yet. We can broadly categorise competitive exams into 2 types:
- Career-oriented Competitive exams called as Entrance exams after Std.12 for admission to UG professional courses. Also, there are Entrance exams after graduation for admission to PG professional courses too.
- Academically-oriented Competitive exams mostly from Std.4 to 12 like KVPY, Olympiads, NTSE, Scholarship exams, NSTSE, NSO etc.

SSC Recruitment (Staff Selection Commission)
SSC has released the exam calendar for 2022-23 recruitment cycle for various posts including LDC, Constable (Driver), and Head Constable. Download Exam Calendar. The Staff Selection commission is responsible to conduct exams like SSC CGL, SSC CHSL, SSC JE, SSC GD, SSC CPO, SSC MTS, and SSC stenographer. The selection process, eligibility criteria, and cut-off marks are set by the commission based on the previous year’s performance.
CTET (Central Teacher Eligibility Test)
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducts the CTET exam twice a year. The exam is conducted to screen eligible candidates who wish to apply for the post of teacher in Government & Private Institutions. Candidates applying for the CTET must fulfill certain requirements in terms of educational qualifications, age limit, nationality, etc, Check details of the CTET qualification criteria in this article. It is important to know the eligibility criteria, once they decide to fill the application form for the CTET exam. It is essential to qualify and fulfill the CTET eligibility criteria to get the final selection. If you do not follow the eligibility criteria, then you will not get the final selection, even if you get the marks to pass the exam. Candidates wishing to apply must be of minimum 17 years and no maximum age limit for CTET Exam. Diploma/degree is also required for CTET exam and it varies depending which category a candidate wants to opt, class I to V or class VI to VIII.
- The CTET exam comprises two test papers i.e. Paper-I and Paper-II for teachers of Primary (Class I to V) and Secondary (Class VI to VIII) classes respectively.
- Candidates who want to apply for Teacher for Classes I-V need to give Paper-I whereas Paper-II has to be attempted by aspirants who want to be eligible to teach Classes VI to VIII. Candidates who wish to apply for teaching classes 1-8 should clear both papers.
CUET (Common University Entrance Test)
DELHI university and Indraprastha university Test (CUET) is a national level entrance test conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for undergraduate admissions in 44 central universities and 103 other institutions. It is mandatory for all candidates to take the CUET exam 2023 get admission in UG programmes in all central and CUET participating universities.
As per the CUET UG eligibility criteria, Candidates must have passed or appeared in 2023 the class 12 or equivalent examination to be eligible for CUET exam. There is no specific age limit for CUET exam. However, universities may have certain age restrictions, which candidates have to verify from the respective university’s website.
