After completing higher secondary education in India, Usually, candidates are to engage in financial activities to assist their family or seek the course that comes to their comfort sight based on which aspirants construct their desired future. The candidates may find it reassuring to see something along the lines of “a graduate program with a minimum duration (not more than one year) and less pocket-hurting costs that have a relatively good record as far as success is concerned.
Taking into account the requirements that students have, we have compiled a list of one-year programmes that may be completed in less time and at a lower cost. The duration of these graduation courses does not exceed one year, and students at the bachelor’s level can choose to study for any of these degrees at many different colleges and institutions across India.

Bachelor of Arts or (BA)
Bachelor of Arts or BA is one of the most demanding undergraduate programmes in Arts. It is a three-year undergraduate programme that strives to give students with wide understanding of the humanities and social sciences through the several BA concentrations available. Students can work as Executive Associates, HR Managers, Copywriters, Marketing Managers, Sales Directors, and several other similar profiles after graduation. After graduation, students can also consider joining Civil Services or go for higher education like Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Arts (MA) or Law. The BA specialisation determines the average pay offered following a BA course.
BA can be pursued in various disciplines such as English, Hindi, History, Journalism, and Psychology. The course can be undertaken right after passing class 12th in India. Usually, a three-year course Arts programme is offered by colleges under various streams such as Design, Mass Communication, and Hospitality. BA (Hons) or BA General course can be pursued in a full-time, part-time, correspondence, or distance education mode. It is mandatory to study five subjects along with a few elective subjects. The subjects will vary depending on the selected subject.
Bachelor of Commerce (BCom)
Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) is a three-year undergraduate course pursued by a high number of students across the country every year. BCom is imparted through regular as well as distance education mode. This is one of the most popular courses of the Commerce branch. BCom offers three other popular courses –Bcom (Pass) or BCom-General, BCom (Honours) and BCom LLB. There are around 8,840 BCom colleges in India, including private (approximately 60%), /government (around 21%), and public/private (around 19%). BCom colleges in India offer courses at UG and PG level.
BCom is one of the common courses which are offered by almost all the universities and colleges in India. The eligibility criteria for pursuing BCom course is given below:
- The candidate must have studied Commerce in Class 11 and 12 with Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics, Maths/optional subject and English as main subjects.
- The candidate must meet the minimum cut-off criteria of the respective college for admission.
- Every college/ university has a minimum cut-off mark criteria as it is subject to the college/university’s admission criteria for that year.
Note: The minimum cut-off marks for BCom admission depends on the total percentage of candidates passing in Commerce in the board exams, the highest score in Commerce, the average score in Commerce, minimum cut-off marks of the previous year, etc.
In India, the colleges offer BCom through full-time, distance/correspondence, part-time classroom, and online mode. B.Sc. or Bachelor of Science
B.Sc. or Bachelor of Science is an undergraduate degree of three years duration which is universally offered across institutes and universities across India. B. Sc. is one of the most popular courses opted for by students who have a flair for scientific aptitude and zeal for research-oriented and calculative approaches based on a proven systematic method. Science is all about experimentation, research and discovery. A BSc degree is a culmination of both theoretical and practical ways of learning. Pursuing a B.Sc. degree also opens up multiple avenues for a student and he/she can either opt for higher studies in Science or any other discipline which may be related to or different from the subjects studied during graduation. However, a Master of Science (MSc) is the most popular higher education alternative opted for by students after completing BSc.
